Iggy Pop of The Stooges gear stolen after concert..

Iggy PopIt’s no fun for the Stooges today in Montreal. The legendary rock band lost everything.

The Michigan rock band is counting its losses after yesterday morning’s theft of its rented tour truck, packed with all of the group’s instruments and stage gear.

The equipment’s dollar value is estimated to be in the fifteen thousand dollar range. Many of the items are priceless , including a vintage Gibson bass that had been Mike Watt’s go-to instrument since his Minutemen days in the 1980s, realistically it should go in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame someday, Eric Fischer, the band’s road manager mentioned.

The yellow, enclosed Penske truck was discovered missing by Fischer about 7:30 in the morning. It had been parked on the street directly in front of the Embassy Suites hotel in Montreal, where Iggy Pop and his band mates had lodged after their Sunday night concert — their first Canadian show in more than three decades. Inside was everything from Scott Asheton’s drum kit to Ron Asheton’s guitars and amps.

The Stooges will still make their scheduled Wednesday gig in Toronto, Fischer said, using rented and donated equipment. Other stops on their concert tour will be in Belgium, Britain, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Serbia, Spain, The Czech Republic and The USA.

Keep an eye peeled, here is a site listing The Stooges stolen equipment. A massive amount of equipment was taken, simply put. The guitar gear and amplification equipment itself is priceless, based on the practice time it takes to get your particular vibe right. Not only that, two identical pieces of guitar gear or even guitars can have a different tone too.

The stolen truck was found a few hours ago, however it was abandoned and empty. Difficult stuff to sell in an open market.

Iggy Pop born James Newell Osterberg, Jr. (born April 21, 1947) and his band, The Stooges. He is sometimes referred to by the nicknames “the Godfather of Punk” and “the Rock Iguana”, and is widely to be one of the most dynamic stage performers. Pop began calling himself Iggy after his first band in high school, The Iguanas.

Iggy Pop was the lead singer of The Stooges, a late 1960s/early 1970s garage rock band who were influential in the development of the heavy metal and punk rock genres. The Stooges became infamous for their live performances, during which it was not uncommon for Pop (who traditionally performs bare-chested) to consume narcotics, self-mutilate, verbally abuse the audience, expose himself and leap off the stage (thus being among the first to “stage dive“). Countless subsequent performers have imitated Pop’s antics.

Any body under the age of 35 years know about Iggy Pop? The Stooges have been together a long time such as many of the other artists I write about. We look forward to comments on Iggy Pop, and if anyone has seen them, The Stooges and Iggy Pop in concert. He is now 61 years old and going strong. Iggy set the stage for the type of performances described in the above paragraph. Guitar Players Center wants you to remember that any stolen equipment that is found can be reported to the cops and or nycentral13@gmail.com. Enjoy.
