Practice what you preach. My loyal readers know how fond I am of gift certificates.
After putting much thought about what to give a Bro. of mine for Christmas, the lite went on. I decided to give him a Musicians Friend Gift Certificate. Based on my preaching, the bulk of my readers would have figured that out instantly. I was over-thinking!
This guy literally has a few hundred guitars, stomp boxes, processors and loads of every guitar part you could ever think of for almost any guitar ever made and a whole lot more he probably forgot about. He is a collection freak, and a bit sick! So, realistically speaking what do you get someone like that? A gift certificate.
Basically I waited to the last second, so it was fast and easy to order an e-certificate online and have it sent to My Bro. by e-mail. It took about four or five minutes and got me out of a bind, at least I thought it did. Lets just say the certificate was for 75.00.
I was thrilled with myself and decided to ride up and see him to tell him to watch his email today for something special. He was very excited and interested and said he would watch his email diligently.
The day after Christmas (Wednesday) I stared to become concerned because no call was received letting me know that he got his gift. At that time I was a bit worried that a mistake was made and he didn’t get his e-certificate.
Well I called him to see if it arrived. Before I could ask, he started talking about a car problem. I was painfully patient and listened to him. As soon as he was done bitching I asked if he got the e-certificate. Oh, yea I got it but I want something that costs $74.95 and it does not come with free shipping. Now, I’m thinking to myself get out your credit card and charge the shipping.
He does not have a credit card so that idea was out the window. The possibility of buying something that cost less and then adding the shipping so it would cost a total of $75.00 was not discussed. I figured that maybe I could call Musicians Friend and get a refund and just give my Bro. the cash.
I called Musicians Friend for help and was blown away at how they handled it and made everything right, at their expense. I told my story and made my request for a refund. I was put on hold for about two or three minutes. When the Gentleman came back to the phone he told me ” they do not refund money for gift certificates”, but because of the circumstances involved they would give free shipping in this case. I was given a confirmation number and told to give it to the beneficiary. He needed to call in and give them the confirmation number and they would cover the shipping.
He called, they shipped all three of us are happy now.
I wanted to thank Musicians Friend for helping out. They totally exceeded my expectations in every way to keep us happy. This is the type of service I have grown to expect out of Musicians Friend and why I decided to use them.
One note to point out is that you can not get a refund on a gift certificate, but if you buy something with a gift certificate you can exchange it within 45 days. thats right, Musicians Friend has a 45 day customer satisfaction return policy.
Guitar Players Center is reminding you that MF, Guitar Center, Music123, Guitar Trader and most of the other qualified online guitar stores have similar policies and work hard to make buying from them just as pleasurable. Don’t hesitate to shop at any of the recommended stores, It s a competitive business and I recommend using any of the online tools or special deals offered by these great stores for your best interests. Another thought worth considering is that you never know when the guitar, gear. tutorials, or accessories you are pursuing are on a special blow out sale.
Thanks for reading this compact article. I hope it reinforces to you that using the power of the internet to shop for guitars, gear and related items is the only way to go nowadays, living in our over busy world.

It’s nice to know that these stores work to make the customer happy but next time you might consider a lump of coal for this “Bro”.
A gift certificate would be a GREAT gift for your kid’s guitar (or any other instrument) teacher or band teacher…or any teacher. Plus, graduation gifts!!!
Love you, Danny!
